Vernon Kal Tire ended a lengthy losing streak by brushing back Executive Flooring/Inc/Enco 3-0 on a smoky Thursday night at Marshall Field.
The Tiremen improved to 3-11-2 in the Kelowna Tree Brewing Men’s 35+ Soccer League, while the flooring crew dipped to 4-7-3.
Kal Tire started the scoring with great movement of the ball starting at the back line with David Dobernigg to Jason Beck, who found Alberto Lopez streaking through the middle at forward. Lopez salsa’d by a defender and finished strong.
Just before half, Beck again connected with Lopez, who caught the Enco defence sleeping. Lopez corralled the ball and hit the low corner to make it 2-0.
In the second half, play went back and forth for a while and it was late in the game when Glenn Allan broke through and cut a pass back across to Kevin Lynes, who had time to pick his spot for further security.
Kal Tire received dynamic defence from Beck, Tyler Johnson, Pedro Garro, Graeme Magee, anchored by David Broadhurst. Mark Zaino earned the shutout with some fabulous plays on corners and wise distribution of the ball.
Vernon goes up against Ram Environmental (5-7-2) Thursday night under the lights (8:30) at Beasley Park in Lake Country. Kal Tire is lead, but just two points behind Mission Cleaners (4-8-1).
