Rita Becker from Summerland and Jodi Bartier from Penticton train together on a regular basis at both locations.
They are good friends but once inside the ring they are intensely focused and highly competitive.
This past weekend they competed at the Karate B.C. 40th anniversary Provincial Championships, which took place at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
Becker brought home gold in kumite and bronze in kata while Bartier brought home the opposite, gold in kata and bronze in kumite.
Other Summerlanders also won at the Provincial Championships.
Katie Becker, 17, won a gold in kata and silver and bronze in two kumite divisions. Simonka Slizek, 14, took bronze in her kumite division. Tavian Gaudiuso, eight, captured a bronze in kumite.
The Taneda Karate Dojo was well represented with students from Summerland, Penticton, West Kelowna and Kelowna.
