The host Kelowna B1 team hoisted the championship trophy at the 2013 edition of the Bill McBain Memorial ‘Raised in a Cage’ Peewee Lacrosse Tournament.
In Sunday’s gold medal final at Memorial Arena, the Kelowna boys overcame a slow start to defeat Shuswap 6-3.
Shuswap led 3-2 after the opening 20 minutes, with Tyler Johnstone and Callum Hymers scoring goals for the home side.
After a scoreless second frame, the hosts erupted for four unanswered goals in the third period to secure the tournament title. Bradley Swecera scored a hat-trick in the third, while Tyler Johnstone added the other.
In the round robin, the Kelowna B1 squad defeated West Kootenay 10-0, lost to Shuswap 4-2 and defeated Kelowna B2 6-5.
In the semifinal, the B1s downed the B2s again, this time by a 4-2 score.
The tournament champs are: Taelyn Lowe, Dimitri Pasutto, Hayden Mitchell, Andrew Cashin, Joe Prohuska, Matthew Sapieha and Andrew Knopf, Cooper Russell, Tyler Johnston, Taye Parmar, Bradley Swecera, Patrick Ferrie, Zachary McGill, Callum Hymers and Kevin Avigdor.
The head coaches are Brad Swecera and Dale Sapieha, and assistants are Todd Johnston and Todd Cashin.
The tournament is held annually in honour of the late Bill McBain, a lacrosse builder and coach in Kelowna for two decades.
