Kelowna Chiefs sink North Okanagan Knights 2-1 in KIJHL action Friday night at Nor-Val Sports Centre.

The Kelowna Chiefs fired a pair of third-period goals to upend the host North Okanagan Knights 2-1 in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League play Friday night at Nor-Val Sports Centre.

After a scoreless first period, the Knights got on the board late in period two as Brett Hawrys clicked on the powerplay with Blaine Caton and Tanner Burns for his team-leading 11th goal.

The Okanagan Division-leading Chiefs (27-12-0-3) equalized with 11:12 left in regulation on Brady Mende’s 16th of the season, unassisted.

Former Vernon Viper prospect Alex Gran, with his second snipe of the year, pocketed the winner with 2:33 to play. Jagger Bowles picked up the assist.

Zach Dyment backed the Knights with a 41-save showing. The Chiefs, featuring ex-Knight Anthony Ruggiero, got 33 stops from Tyler O’Donnell.

North Okanagan (20-21-0-1) visited the 13-23-0-5 Princeton Posse Saturday night. The Knights thumped the Posse 5-3 earlier in the week.
