Kelowna house league midget team goes Wild in tournament win

Kelowna Wild claim big house tournament with stingy defense and lots of goals

A Kelowna Midget boys house league hockey team used a strong defence and a disciplined approach to go undefeated in a 16 team tournament in Salmon Arm last weekend.

The Kelowna Wild allowed just nine goals against in five games en route to the tournament title while the offense poured home 35 goals in going 5-and-0 on the weekend.

Kelowna began the tournament with three convincing wins in the round robin portion of the tournament. It began on Friday evening when the Wild played Semiahmoo and earned a 7-1 win.

The next morning against Kamloops the Kelowna club had another strong effort in an 11-4 win. Then later in the afternoon Kelowna defeated West Kelowna 9-0 to give them a 3-and-0 record and first place in their pool.

In the playoff round on Sunday morning the team played a solid Mission team in one of two semi-final games and came away victorious 4-2, setting the stage for a entertaining final against the Kelowna Flyers. The Kelowna Wild came back twice in this entertaining final to win the championship game in a well played fast paced final, winning 4-2.
