Kelowna Rockets soar past Lethbridge Hurricanes

Carter Rigby, JT Barnett and Colton Leffley, into an empty net, scored for the Rockets before 2,933 fans at the Enmax Centre. Connor Sutton replied for the Hurricanes, who got a stellar 24-save showing from Ty Rimmer.

The Rockets, who are on a grueling five-game road trip, improved to 21-9-1-1, good for second spot in the B.C. Division. Lethbridge is fourth in the Central at 16-15-1-4. Damon Sverson earned first star with two assists.

Kelowna faces Vernon’s Cole Sanford and the Medicine Hat Tigers tonight. Sanford has one goal in 16 games.

Meanwhile, Vernon’s Curtis Lazar netted his 14th goal of the season as the Edmonton Oil Kings  stopped the Kamloops Blazers 5-2 in front of 5,893 fans at Rexall Centre.

Lazar, who has 24 points, opened the scoring on a powerplay in the first period. Henrik Samuelsson (2), Cole Benson and Mitchell Moroz also converted for the Oil Kings (20-7-2-3), while Tim Bozon and Aaron Macklin replied for the Blazers.

Edmonton is one point back of the Central-leading Calgary Hitmen, while the Blazers lead the B.C. Division at 25-8-1-2.
