Kelowna runner goes back to back with wins in Interior Running series

John Machuga takes first place in Kamloops event last weekend

Kelowna’s John Machuga made it back-to-back wins on the Interior Running Association circuit, capturing The River’s Spring Run-Off 10K last weekend in Kamloops.

Machuga finished the third race of the 2012 IRA road series in 33 minutes 42 second.  Merritt’s Hans Aabye was a close second in 33:55.

Machuga also won the Lakeside 5K the previous week in Penticton.

Vernon’s Nathan Champness was third in Kamloops in 35:19.

The top woman finishers were Marie-Josee Bedard of Merritt and Kelowna’s Delilah Topic who finished tied for 25th in 44:25. Topic also took the women’s 30 to 34 age group.

Kelowna’s Randy Werger won the men’s 50 to 54 age group in 40:44 and placed ninth overall.

Other local age group winners were: Laurelee Nelson, Kelowna, women’s 55 to 59 in 46:46; Janice Bradshaw, West Kelowna, women’s 45 to 49 in 51:15; Liz Borrett, Kelowna, 70 to 74 in 51:53; Susan Templin, Kelowna, women’s 60 to 64 in 55:38; and Garry Bell, Kelowna, men’s 70 to 74 in 57:35.

The next event on the IRA circuit is the Okanagan College Half Marathon April 7 in Kelowna.
