A pair of Kelowna cyclists couldn’t be stopped at the 2014 edition of the Huntsman World Senior Games.

Donna Nicholas and Donalee Young each rode their way top four gold medals at the annual international sporting event earlier this month in St. George, Utah.

Competing in the women’s 75 to 79 (Div. 2) age group, Nicholas claimed top spot in four events—the 5 K hill climb, the 20 K time trial, criterium and 37 K road race.

Young, competing in the Div. 3 women’s 70 to 74 category, won gold medals in the same four disciplines.

The 5 K hill climb was held in Snow Canyon at an elevation of 1,000 feet.

The Huntsman World Senior Games was first held in 1987, a sporting event designed for men and women aged 55 years and older.

The games feature 27 athletic events which are staged over a two-week period each October.

In addition to athletic events, the Games promote health by providing life saving health screenings for cancer—both breast and prostate.
