Kelowna United soccer teams see plenty of action

Lots of local scores as KU puts up another solid weekend of results

Kelowna United soccer teams earned more wins than losses last weekend. Here’s a look at the results from soccer matches last weekend.

•U-13 Girls

The Kelowna team came out strong against Shuswap’s U-13 team but despite some strong passing and great shots on net KU was unable to score in the first half. Angelia Ostrom opened the scoring in the second half and KU poured on the offense from there with other goals coming from Erin Thomas, Kiera Baldwin and Ostrom with her second of the game in a 4-0 win.

In their second game of the weekend, Kelowna’s U-13 girls earned another 4-0 shutout win, this time over Kamloops.  Paige Krivoshein, Chanel Campbell, Kiera Baldwin and Courtney Peissard scored for Kelowna.

•U-15 Girls

Kelowna and Vernon ran to a 1-1 tie in U-15 action. After Vernon opened the scoring in the second half on a penalty kick, the KU team pushed for the equalizer and with 10 minutes to go Kelsey Slattery was in front of the net to convert a well placed cross to tie the game.

•U-16 Girls

Following a tough loss to Penticton last week, the KU U-16 girls bounced back with a strong effort against Shuswap, earning a 4-1 win. Kelowna controlled the play from the start of the first half with excellent ball control and strong defensive play from Jill Robertson, Megan Hendricks and Sierra Sanchez. Kelowna scored early as Kenzie Sharko directed a nicely placed corner kick by Taylor Cristofoli into the net. Casey Loudoun and Taylor Cristofoli also scored for KU.

•U-11 Boys – Saints

The KU U-11 Saints had a tough weekend, dropping games to Penticton and Vernon.

Gregor Smith scored twice while Patrick Donovan and Anthony Kurkjian scored for Kelowna in a 7-4 loss.

Nicolas Bigattini scored on a penalty kick in a 4-1 loss to Vernon in their second game.

•U-13 Boys

Kelowna United’s U-13 boys scored a narrow 2-1 win over the Shuswap Selects U-13 team in the first of two games for the U-13 boys.

With the game tied 1-1, Mason Chidlow ran the ball deep, turned and cut the ball back to the edge of the box giving Evan Kruiper the opportunity to curl it in at the far corner for the winning goal. A great pass by Taylor Piche allowed Blaise Beauchemin to score Kelowna’s first goal of the game.

Kelowna pounded Kamloops 5-0 on Sunday as Beauchemin scored a hat trick to lead the offense. Connor Sandrin and Piche also scored. A fantastic save by keeper Liam Gallagher on a penalty kick and a save by defender Evan Callahan kept the sheet clean for Kelowna.

•U-14 Boys

The Kelowna United’s U-14 boys travelled to Salmon Arm to face the Shuswap team and came away with a 5-0 win. Jeremy McKay opened the scoring for Kelowna before the team poured on the offense in the second half. Spencer Young scored a hat trick and Corbin Beauchemin scored the final goal of the game.

On Sunday the U-14 offense kept rolling with a 6-1 win over Kamloops. Spencer Young opened the scoring with three straight goals while Jas Khunkhun scored two goals and Beauchemin added one.

•U-15 Boys

The U-15 boys earned wins over Vernon and Kamloops. Lachlan Wallace and Cabe McFadyen gave Kelowna United the win 2-0.

On Sunday Kamloops scored the first goal of the game but Kelowna came back quickly with a goal from Aaron Obedkoff as the half ended 1-1. McFadyen scored the winning goal in the second half.
