A Kelowna United Under 11 Warriors player has been selected to play in the B.C. Summer Games this summer.

Christopher Vandenheuvel was selected to the Thompson-Okanagan U-12 boys soccer team that will play in the B.C. Summer Games.

Kelowna United Warriors coach Cam West said it was no surprise, given the player’s work ethic an example of which came after practice. When other players were given extra running drills at the end of practice  Vandenheuvel would voluntarily run the extra drills as well.

“To my surprise Chris took it upon himself to do the extra set of exercises with that player and every time after that,” said West. “At this level and only 10 years old, this is completely unheard of.”

A defender, Vandenheuvel has found a very comfortable spot playing on the back line, said West.

“He has strong defensive skills with strong offensive qualities that always prove to be a threat on a quick counter attack.”

The B.C. Summer Games will be held in Surrey July to 22.
