Kelowna native Rory MacDonald looks to have his next opponent set up after challenging UFC veteran BJ Penn via Twitter.

It appears as if Kelowna mixed martial artist Rory MacDonald has found his next opponent in the UFC and it could be one of the sports well known fighters

According to media reports, MacDonald, a rising UFC star who got his start in the sport at Kelowna’s Toshido Mixed Martial Arts, will take on UFC veteran BJ Penn at UFC 152 in Toronto in September.

MacDonald now trains with the UFC’s 170-pound champion Georges St. Pierre at Montreal’s Tristar Gym and is coming off a knockout of Che Mills in the co-main event of April’s UFC 145 in Atlanta.

The win improved MacDonald’s record to 4-and-1 in five fights in the UFC and 13-1 overall.

The fight hasn’t been confirmed by the UFC as Penn announced his retirement after a loss to Nick Diaz in October.

But MacDonald appears to have lured the Hawaiin Penn out of retirement when he challenged Penn to a fight via Twitter. Penn accepted the challenge this week.
