Kidz Club ball hockey, sponsored by the 100 Mile House Evangelical Free Church, recently got a rise out of players, Dirk Schuurman, left, Spencer Haggstrom, Keiran Emery, Cory Mapson and Amy Jensen.

The 100 Mile House Evangelical Free Church holds a Kidz Club every Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the 100 Mile House Junior Secondary.

“We used to have crafts, activities and teachings at the church,” says Pastor John Marshall. “But, we found the kids enjoyed a more active evening.”

Kidz Club is now all about ball hockey, and all the children from kindergarten to Grade 7 enjoy playing. Marshall says there are 16 young people playing and the younger ones are the feistiest.

“The format is the same as our soccer camp we hold in August. The beginning of the evening is with skill stations, such as passing tips, and then at half time we hold devotions, with the remainder of the evening being scrimmage.”

Marshall says one of the men from the church built a 56-foot removable wooden barrier to halve the gym, which not only shortens the game playing area but also offers them the opportunity to hold two games at once.

“People are welcome to stop by the school and watch a game. We play by the rules; it is very safe.”

There is a $20 registration fee, and children will need a hockey stick with a plastic end, gloves and shin pads. The next registration is in January, says Marshall, and except for school holidays, they play every Wednesday evening.
