The Creston Valley Thunder Cats ended a losing streak with two wins on the weekend, bumping them back in to second place in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s Eddie Mountain Division.
The Thunder Cats defeated the visiting Golden Rockets 5-2 on Friday night, and beat them in Golden on Saturday, keeping the Rockets at the bottom of the division with two points.
Logan Wullum and Carson Cartwright scored for Creston in the first period for a 2-1 lead, with James Severs’ second-period goal giving them a 3-2 lead. The Rockets were scoreless in the third period, but Thunder Cats Jack Berger and Liam Plunkett added two more.
Plunkett started the scoring just over four minutes into the first period the next night, with the Rockets tying the score with a shorthanded goal 30 second later. No goals were scored in the second period, but Severs (power play) and Cartwright (empty net) each scored in the third.
This weekend, the Thunder Cats host the Nelson Leafs Friday, the Kimberley Dynamiters Saturday and the Kamloops Storm Sunday.
