King forces checkmate on Outlaws

Dr. Lee Dental stops Little Tex Outlaws 5-2 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 1 play Tuesday night at Marshall #2.

Dr. Lee Dental stretched their unbeaten streak to eight games by stopping the Little Tex Outlaws 5-2 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 1 play Tuesday night at Marshall #2.

Down by a goal 10 minutes in, the Floss Crew turned up the heat and Kim Teichman equalized on a solo effort, making a run from defence through several Outlaw players at 20 minutes.

Former University of Idaho Vandal Andi King resumed her torrid scoring pace, putting Dr Lee up 2-1 at half after a great pass from Toni Bensmiller.

King made it 3-1 on a goal-mouth scramble early in the second half, and Leah Frye, just getting back into her old form from three years ago, after having two wonderful children, made it 4-1, Madison Kaneda setting her up.

Kaneda finished off the scoring off a corner kick that deflected off a Little Tex player into the net.

The 2-4-1 Outlaws had several chances in the last 15 minutes, scoring once, but were stopped twice on breakaways by Lisa Arrotta.

Dr. Lee (7-0-1) welcomed back Boston Pizza Lady of the Match Ally Dodds, who had a solid game at midfield. No Little Tex goal scorers were provided.

Celtics shift past Glenn Power

It appears all the NET Celtics have been watching every minute of Euro Cup 2012 over the last week.

The Celtics took down Glenn Power of Salmon Arm 3-2 Tuesday night at Marshall #4 to leapfrog the Shuswap crew into second place.

Ashley Krause scored two great goals in the first half for the 3-2-2 Celtics. NET took an early lead when a Euro-class corner was played in by rookie Kayla Ostafie who found flick-on master Carly smith making a near post run.

The ball popped out to Krause who looked more like Miroslav Klose with her composure on the ball to drive a hard shot off the bounce. The defender stretched out only to get a piece of the ball as it squeaked over the line.

Krause got her second goal in as many shots as she physically dominated the centre midfield, winning most of the 50/50 balls in the centre of the pitch. Krause brought down a loose ball to casually beat three defenders and slot the ball home, bottom right.

The Celtics took a 3-0 lead when veteran speedster Jackie Morneau broke past defenders on a great through ball from Shannon Walton. Morneau’s wheels gave her nothing but time as she shot the ball over the keeper, who got her fingertips on the ball as it landed on the line and rolled over the line.

Glenn Power (2-2-3) grinded things out and responded with two goals, one on a long, curving shot, and the other on a wild  goal-mouth scramble.

NET pushed back and just missed on scoring chances from Carly Smith, Heidt Holtmann and Paige Rachwalski.

“That was our best game to date,” said NET coach Graham Ross. “Each game is better than the next; the girls are really working hard for each other and it shows not only at games but at practice as well.

“Tori Reid had a great game on the back line; she has really stepped out of her bubble and looks like a veteran defender back there.”

The Celtics go up against Little Tex next Tuesday night at Marshall #1.

Impact gain draw with United

League-leading TED United of Salmon Arm drew 1-1 with second-place Longhorn Impact in a Masters showdown of unbeaten teams at Marshall Field #5.

An unfortunate hand ball in the box gave TED a penalty shot and their first-half goal by Kyla Sherman.

The Impact stepped up the pressure in the final half and Longhorn forward Edeen Ramsey hammered the net several times before placing a great shot corner right side to level the score in the late minutes. Keeper Derri-Ann Cooper was superb for the 5-0-2 Longhorns.

Tina Garrison controlled the play with incredible distribution, while Kim Wiebe’s  defensive skills and speed shut down the 6-0-1 United attacks.

The Longhorns played their passing game and really worked together as a unit in what was their best game of the season.

Rosters shut down Seasons in the Okanagan Sistas 5-0 at Marshall #1.

Becky McLennan started the scoring when she went around a Sista’s defender and crossed to Daralee Morris who buried it for her first of two goals on the night.

Renee Cooke was great on offence, assisting on the rest of the goals by McLennan, Morris and two for Lisa Desjardins. Rosters got strong efforts in the middle by Marissa Wiebe, Marianne DeFoor and Tania Mund.

The score could have been higher but Sista keeper Suzyn August made some great diving saves and quick reactions.

Lesley Williams really turned on the jets in the second half and consistently won loose balls for the 0-8-1 Sista’s, who also got inspired showings from Sasha Schenker and centreback Sherry Wiebe.

Andrea Zubot crossed to a wide open Schenker who appeared to have nothing but net until the 2-4-2 Rosters keeper came out of nowhere.

Winning kicks for Chicks

The Chick Kickers cranked up their offence in a 7-0 punishing of Setters Pub in Salmon Arm.

The Chicks erupted for five first-half goals before slowing things down. Despite having six subs, coach Mike Johnson said the Kickers still managed to keep great flow and shape.

Michelle Johnson and Mel  Jacobs each scored twice for the third-place Chicks (6-1), while singles went to Crystal Bergman, Jenny Garnett and Bonnie  Mann. The shutout was shared by  Colline Johnson and Tricia Cox. Setters dipped to 2-4-1.

Goplen’s Drillers won their second straight game on a puddle-filled field in Salmon Arm, b;anking Shuswap Kaos 2-0.

Lena Urqhuart provided the offence with both goals just before half time. Urquhart intercepted a Kaos throw-in and took the ball in alone and beat the keeper.

Just three minutes later, Kylah Bryde sent a long ball up to Urquhart who put a high ball over the keeper. The Drillers (2-5-1) played an excellent team game with awesome communication.

NOU settle for tie with Merlot

The Vernon Square Liquor Store NOU and Shuswap Merlot drew 1-1 Tuesday night  at Marshall #3.

Teresa Collins sent a hard pass up to (Lean) Lena Dean for the tap in goal for NOU (3-1-3), who registered several powerful shots on net but the luck was with the Merlot.

Even a penalty kick taken by Carla Gibson was foiled, right into the hands of the 3-3-2 Merlot keeper.
