Former Vernon Kokanee Savannah King netted Canada West’s first star of the week for her record-breaking performance at the conference swim championships last weekend in Lethbridge.
King and Coleman Allen, of the UBC Dolphins, combined for 10 gold medals.
A two-time Olympian, the 22-year-old King recorded four gold medals and one bronze in leading the UBC women to a sixth straight Canada West crown.
Allen racked up six gold and one silver in setting three individual Canada West records, helping the Dolphin men earn a second straight title.
For a fourth straight year, King was named the Female Swimmer of the Meet in Lethbridge. Swimming in her final Canada West Championships, the fifth-year Kinesiology student dominated the distance freestyle events, pocketing gold in the 200-metre, 400 and 800 distances. Her other gold was in the 4×200 freestyle relay. She added bronze in the 200 backstroke.
Over her Canada West career, King has collected 20 gold medals, two silver and two bronze.
