Kings crush Ice 5-1

The North Zone Kings stopped the East Kootenay Zone Ice 5-1 in Midget Tier 1 Hockey League play

The North Zone Kings stopped the East Kootenay Zone Ice 5-1 in Okanagan Mainline Midget Tier 1 Hockey League play Saturday night at Civic Arena.

Kohen Martin opened the scoring with a low, stick-side snapper from Eric Noren just four minutes into the game. Captain Joe Eggert made it 2-0 Kings at 6:58 with a sharp-angled, glove-side, top-corner snipe from Nic Teale.

The Kings outshot the Ice 20-5 in the first period. The Ice couldn’t muster much offence in the second, either, managing just four shots on starter Ty Sedlacek while their goaltender stood tall stopping 23 of 24.

Defenceman Lee Christiensen converted on a wraparound on the powerplay from Cam Moger and call-up KT Walters at 1:47.

The Kootenay netminder stopped a breakaway attempt early by Eggert but Martin put the Kings up by four off a rebound with assists going to Dylan Sedlacek and Eggert. Eight seconds later, Caden Bracken made it 5-0 by slipping a puck slyly between the legs of the tender from in tight off a Noren feed.

The Ice spoiled Ty Sedlacek’s shutout bid on a breakaway.

The Coca-Cola Vipers improved to 22-0 by taking a pair of Midget Tier 3 home tilts.

Gavin Fleck supplied two goals as the Vipers clipped the Castlegar Rebels 5-3 Saturday at Priest Valley Arena. Tyson Sampert, Mason Robinson and Ben Reinhardt added singles in support of Jadon Foster.

Fleck pocketed 4+2 as the Coke crew stuffed the Revelstoke Grizzlies 7-3 Sunday at Civic. Koltin Dodge was solid in net.

The Sun Valley Source for Sports Vipers shaded the host West Kelowna Warriors 3-2 in Bantam Tier 3 league play Saturday.

Max Stewart banged in the rebound from a point shot by Jonathan Finlayson that found its way through traffic for Sun Valley’s opening goal. The Vipers’ second goal was a beautiful spinning blind back pass from Bennett Kuhnlein to a wide open Chris Reinhardt. Reinhardt completed the offence with some nifty corner moves before going backhander top shelf.

Erik Pastro rang up a deuce as the Watkin Motors Mustangs iced the Penticton Vees 5-2 in Pee Wee Tier 2 play.

Austin Seibel and Matthew Kuhnlein split the goaltending duties. The Mustangs (5-0-1) battle the 5-0 West Kelowna Warriors in a Sunday showdown, 2:30 p.m., at Kal Tire Place.
