KISU swimmer piling up medals

KISU swimmers wins five medals, soccer team playing in medal rounds

KISU’s Tyler Wall helped Team BC haul more medals out of the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg Wednesday evening.

Swimmers won 11 medals: three gold, five silver and three bronze, pushing BC’s total to 27 medals after three days of swimming at the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

Wall has five medals. He struck for gold in the 100 metre freestyle and 4×200-m free relay, silver in the 4×100-m free relay and two bronze medals in the 100-m back stroke and 4×50-m free relay.

Tyler Wall pic“I am not happy with that race,” said Wall of the 100-m backstroke. “It wasn’t my best and I added time.”

Wall anchored the 4×100-m relay team. Earlier in the evening, he took the bronze in the 100m backstroke. “It actually hurt this time,” said Wall, describing his anchor leg of the race. “I was hurting quite a bit, but I gave it my all.”

With Wednesday’s podium performances, BC now has several multiple medallists in swimming at the Games. KISU’s Acacia Benn placed fourth in the 400-m freestyle.

Soccer team in quarter-finals

Pinnacles FC and Thompson-Okanagan FC grad Bjorn Borren helped B.C. to a 3-1 win over Nova Scotia on Wednesday.

The first rainy day offered the team a chance to avenge their female counterparts with a 3-1 victory over Nova Scotia. The women’s team was knocked out of their tournament in a heartbreaking quarterfinals loss to the Maritimers last week, so the boys had extra motivation. With the win, BC secures first place in their pool and will play Alberta in the knockout round. That match will be played at 5:30 p.m.
