Colin Catchpole’s second of the game was the difference as the Langley Knights took one step closer to clinching home-ice advantage for the first round of the PJHL playoffs.
Catchpole’s scored at 2:01 of the extra period to send the Knights past the Aldergrove Kodiaks 5-4 in junior B hockey at the George Preston Recreation Centre on Feb. 5.
The Kodiaks have already clinched the Harold Brittain Division title and the Knights need just a single point in their final two games to finish second.
Langley trailed 4-3 after two periods but Dylan McCann tied things up early in the third, setting the stage for Catchpole’s overtime heroics.
Tristan Craighead and Joshua Smith had the other Langley goals while Brandon Dolby, Quinncy Leroux, Evan Cusmano and Eric Callegari replied for Aldergrove.
Nickolas Trenciansky made 31 saves for the victory as the Knights improved to 22-18-1-1 and sit second in the Harold Brittain Division with 46 points.
The Knights close the regular season with a home game on Thursday (Feb. 12) against the Ridge Meadows Flames and a road contest the following night at the Abbotsford Pilots.
The Kodiaks finish with a home game Wednesday (Feb. 11) against the Delta Ice Hawks and a road game on Saturday versus the Mission City Outlaws.
