Ko named Junior Athlete of the Year

Golfer Naomi Ko was selected as the 2105 Female Junior Athlete of the Year

Sport BC announced the athletes, coaches and officials who were the successful recipients of the 2015 Athlete of the Year Awards, hosted in Vancouver on March 12, 2015.

These individuals were honoured for their excellence in and contribution to sport in front of 480 guests at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

The award recipients represented 13 different sports with individuals and team members representing 20 communities within British Columbia.

Victoria golfer Naomi Ko  was presented with the Female Junior Athlete of the Year award.

This award recognizes extraordinary athletic performance by a female junior athlete who is competing on team or in an individual sport in British Columbia.

Naomi had a stellar 2014 season, which included winning the BC Junior Girls Amateur Championship and finishing as the runner-up at the BC Juvenile Girls Championship. She also finished 4th at the BC Women’s Amateur Championship, 4th in the Canadian Junior Girls Amateur Championship, 2nd in the AJGA St. Louis, and 13th in the AJGA Junior Girls

Championship.

On the national stage, Ko finished top 40 in the Canadian Women’s Amateur, 3rd in the CN Future Links Pacific Championship and won the CN Future Links Ontario Championship. She also finished top 10 in the Canadian Women’s Pro Tour BC Championship.

Saanichton’s Samson Reinhart was presented with the Male Junior Athlete of the Year. Reinhart plays for the Western Hockey League’s Kootenay Ice and was one of only two 18-year-olds selected for Canada’s World Junior Championship (U20) team.
