Delta Ice Hawks put up a strong fight but a pair of unanswered goals by the Aldergrove Kodiaks in the third period gave the Kodiaks the 3-2 victory.
It was the opening game of the Pacific Junior Hockey League final championship, Friday, March 17 at Aldergrove Arena. Game two is Saturday night, March 18 at Aldergrove Arena, puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
Kodiaks assistant captain Cameron Davitt was the game’s first star that night, for his part in helping Matt Oliver and Quinncy Leroux score the winning goals.
Kodiaks captain Eric Callegari was third star, for his power play goal in the second period, which tied the game at 1-1 early in the period. Callegari’s assists came from Jeremy Lagler and David Padgham.
The Hawks had taken a 1-0 lead in the first period with a power play goal by Hawk Mark Trotman. Hawk Tetsuya Prior had made it 2-1 for the Hawks midway through the second period.
The Kodiaks narrowly outshot the Hawks, 37-35. Dawson Rodin ably minded the net for the Kodiaks, turning aside 33 of the Hawks’ 35 shots.
