With Delta Ice Hawks clinching their best of seven series 4-1 over the Grandview Steelers on Friday, Delta now moves on to face the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s champions, the Aldergrove Kodiaks, in the final championship round.
The Kodiaks had already clinched their playoffs round 4-0 over the Ridge Meadows Flames, and will host the Ice Hawks this Friday, March 17 in game one of the PJHL championship. The Kodiaks also host the Hawks the next night, Saturday, March 18 at Aldergrove Arena. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m., both nights.
The Kodiaks won three of four regular season meetings with the Ice Hawks.
The series moves over to the Ladner Leisure Centre for games three and four, Tuesday, March 21 and Friday, March 24, puck drop 7:35 both nights.
Games five, six and seven, if needed, will be Saturday, March 25, 7:30 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena, Tuesday, March 28, 7:35 p.m. at Ladner Leisure Centre, and Wednesday, March 29, 7:15 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena.
KODIAKS SWEEP PLAYOFFS TO ADVANCE TO FINALS
The Aldergrove Kodiaks swept the second round of the Harold Brittain conference playoffs and now wait to see who they will face in the final Pacific Junior Hockey League championship.
The Kodiaks defeated the Ridge Meadows Flames, 7-2, March 7 at Aldergrove Arena in the fourth game of the best-of-seven series.
Kodiak Kyle Bosko opened the scoring in the first period with help from Kurt Klimek and the team never looked back.
The Flames evened it up on a power play late in the period but the Kodiaks responded on their power play to make it 2-1 in the period.
The goal was scored by Quinncy Leroux, with assists from Cameron Davitt and Davin Padgham.
The Kodiaks scored three more in the second period before the Flames responded, again on a power play, to make it 5-2 for the Kodiaks. Scoring for the Kodiaks were Clayton Schroeder (unassisted), Klimek with help from Matt Oliver, and Leroux from Arjan Cheema and Davitt.
The Kodiaks scored twice more in the third period for the 7-2 final score. Goals were by Oliver from Davitt and Padgham, and Davitt from Derian White and Schroeder.
In this game the Kodiaks only outshot the Flames 41-35, but the Flames were unable to get more than two goals past the Kodiaks defense and keeper Dawson Rodin.
Rodin made 35 saves and won his eighth game of the postseason.
Game stars were Leroux, Klimek and Oliver.
The Kodiaks have a combined record (regular season and playoffs) of 44 wins and eight losses this season.
