The Delta Ice Hawks finally put a stop to the Aldergrove Kodiaks’ win streak Tuesday at Ladner Leisure Centre.
The Kodiaks outshot the Hawks 41-32 but lost 4-2 to a team that has been inching to the top of the Tom Shaw conference, with 28 points after 20 games (14 wins, six losses).
The Kodiaks remain first in the Pacific Junior Hockey League and top of the Harold Brittain conference with 30 points after 20 games (15 wins, five losses).
The Hawks opened the scoring early in the first period before Kodiak Matt Oliver notched one midway through the period, assisted by Eric Callegari. However, the Hawks scored again late in the period to take a 2-1 lead through the scoreless second period.
The Kodiaks evened it up early in the third period with a goal by Callegari, assisted by Quinncy Leroux. However, the Hawks scored again to take the lead, and then firmed it up with an empty-netter in the dying minute of the game.
The Kodiaks failed to score on three power plays while the Hawks scored on one of three.
The Kodiaks face the Port Moody Panthers tonight in Aldergrove, 7:15 p.m. Their next away game is Saturday at Mission Outlaws, followed by a home game versus the Abbotsford Pilots next Wednesday, Nov. 23.
