Kokoro Judo Club scoops medals

April has been a busy and rewarding month for members of the Kokoro Judo Club in 100 House who travelled on two consecutive weekends to attend a couple of tournaments.

At the Edmonton International Judo Championship on April 1-3, Ali Briggs earned a gold medal in Senior Women’s competition and also took silver in the U20 Women’s division.

Stephanie Salzbrenner was a bronze medallist in both the Senior Women’s and the U17 Women’s categories.

Silver medals went to Avery, Reid and Ian Collinson.

The Prince George Open Judo tournament on April 9 saw Kokoro send a large contingent that came back with good results.

Briggs clinched another gold medal in her U20 Women’s division, while Salzbrenner won silver in her U17 event and took bronze in Senior Women’s Light competition.

Both have been invited to represent British Columbia at the Canadian Junior National Championships, July 1 – 3, in Sept-Iles, Quebec.

Deborah Zemanek was also a gold-medal winner in her U20 Women’s category, as was Pascal Glanz.

Other local competitors who brought home silver medals were Ian Collinson, Amy Jordaan, Adam Sullivan and Ryan Sullivan.

While fighting in the gold/silver medal match, Ryan was injured severely enough to warrant a cast.

Bronze medalists at the tournament were Avery Collinson, Reid Collinson, Paige Hall, John Jordaan and Andrea Zemanek who fought in the Senior Women’s division. Dorean Storz placed fourth.

The Prince George tournament was one of the last of the season for the Kokoro club.
