Kondors just miss provincial championship

Three strokes were the difference between a third straight provincial championship and second-place for the KSS golf team last year.

Three strokes were the difference between a third straight provincial championship and a second-place finish for the Kwalikum Kondors golf team last year.

Tony Trozzo and his teammates haven’t forgotten and will be aiming for that top spot once again.

The Kondors were the top program in AA BC High School Golf heading into last year after winning back-to-back provincial titles in 2012 and 2013.

The pressure was there all season long and the Kondors dealt with it in stride.

In the end, it was a mere three strokes that saw them finish in second place, ending their reign as defending provincial champions.

“It was tough to swallow,” Trozzo said.

“Looking back, we know that there were some shots we left out there but we’re looking ahead now to next year. We’ve got a great core group of guys with Jake Lane, Masato Wilson, Blair Stewart, Aidan Goodfellow and myself and I know that we’ll be able to bounce back next year.”

With the final year at KSS for Trozzo, Wilson and Stewart on the horizon, Trozzo knows the three of them are going to put it all out there to try and win one more championship.

“I’ve never been this excited for school to start,” Trozzo said.

“Winning the provincials is one of the greatest feelings in the world. I want to do whatever I can to help lead this team to one more before our time is up. It would be nice to put another banner up in the gym in our last year at KSS for sure.”
