The West Kootenay Women’s roller derby All-Star team, the Kootenay Kannibelles, will be heading to the Canadian national championships in early 2013.
The team, currently ranked sixth in Canada in just their second season, features seven Rossland skaters. The Kanibelles earned their spot by finishing second at the Canadian westerns in Nelson this summer.
As part of their fundraising campaign to finance their adventure to the nationals the Kannibelles have teamed up with local game show performing company “The Price Is Jeopardy Or No Deal Of Fortune” for a special one-off performance of the fun filled show at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson. The show, with the catchphrase “Don’t just see the show, Be the show,” features a mix of games and challenges designed to get the audience involved as they test their brains, skills and inhibitions to win points for their teams and prizes for themselves.
And there will be a lot of prizes, including our grand prize – a $700 spa package for two people from Halcyon Hot Springs.
The package includes 2 nights in a cottage, a $100 meal voucher per day for the Kingfisher Restaurant, a 55 min relaxation massage per person, a gift bag with two bottles of Halcyon Lithia Water, a Jar of Halcyon Bath Salts, and all pool passes with free pool towel service.
The link between the team and the show is Kannibelles coach Phil Loosley, who splits his time between his derby persona ‘Coach Phil Yer Pants’ and his game show host alias ‘Phillus Dillus’. Phil started the show as a fundraising event for Rossland Radio Co-Op in 2009 and since then it has evolved to entertain the people of the Kootenays at conferences, after-dinner events and parties, with clients including Columbia Basin Trust, the BC Seniors’ Games and FortisBC.
The 19 and over show will be staged at the Capitol Theatre on Oct. 27, doors open at 7 p.m. with the fun getting underway at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available through the Capitol Theatre box office in person, by phone or online.
