Koshure ignites Vikes with six points

Evangeline Koshure supplies six points as Vernon Vikings tie Salmon Arm 9-9 in Petite ringette action last weekend.

Evangeline Koshure supplied four goals and two assists as the Vernon Five Star Award Vikings skated to a 9-9 draw with host Salmon Arm in Petite ringette last weekend.

Adding to the Viking Offence were Emma Carter, Kalen Webster, Bryn Taylor-Hawes, Rylie Marchand and pick-up Kenzie Koshure.

The Vikes settled for another tie Sunday, a 3-3 result against Kelowna. Marchand picked up a pair of goals and Josie Nerling netted her first of the season.

Caenen Wisse played goal for both games.

In other Petite play, the Advertising Works Thunder Cats fell 12-2 to the Kelowna Heart Saturday at the Enderby Arena.

Madison Fox led the Thundercats with a goal and assist, and Abygayle Williamson had the other goal, unassisted.

The Thundercats fared much better in a Sunday rematch, skating to a 6-6 draw with the Heart at Rutland Arena.

Williamson pulled the hat trick, burying the equalizer with five seconds to play. Fox, with a pair, and Ellen Campbell completed the Vernon attack. Assists came from MacKenzie Munro, Kelly Widmark and Miranda Chapple. Makayla Vanderzwan backstopped the Thundercats with some terrific saves.

The Vernon North Enderby Timber Flames bowed 8-5 to the West Kelowna Lightning in Novice action.

The Flames saw goals from Brynn Korol, Emma Lochhead, Georgia Lannon, Julie Francis and Levi Knopf. Assists came from Knopf, Ashly Shwaluk and Jessie Campbell. Kaila Summerfelt was strong in her debut in net, with Katie Finlayson providing strong defence.

The Vernon Newalta Tween A Rush banked pair of weekend wins, starting with a 7-0 drubbing of the Shuswap Shotz Saturday in Salmon Arm.

With Kaitlyn Paulin earning the shutout, the Rush got offence from Caleb Pope (3), Kendra Ostafie (2+1), Maddie Powls (1+1) and Alex Drury. Saige Woodliffe had two assists and Hannah Popilchak had one.

The Rush used stellar goaltending from Garrett Adams to ice the Vernon Sunshine Autographic Junior B Swag 6-4 Sunday at Priest Valley Arena.

Rush offense came from Ostafie (3+1), Powls (1+1), Woodliffe and Amy Parsons. Assists came from Popilchak, Paulin, Saylor Martian and Pope.

The Swag’s Bailey Williamson opened the scoring, assisted by Desiree Turnball. Alanna Fox a pair of goals and Dayna Hanley had one. Assists came from Williamson, Kim Wilson and Paige Webster. Emily Olds was solid in taking the loss.

In Tween C play, the host Vernon Invaders bowed 6-2 to West Kelowna Saturday.

Marika Monroe collected both Invader goals in support of netminder Madison Johnson.

The Vernon Blue Lightning fell 14-9 to Kelowna #3 in a well-played game.

Kate Mallow and Jaida Sauvie recorded their first goals of the season for the Bolts, who got an offensive boost from sisters Sasha and Shayla Austin, and Alicia Hughes. Taliya Yamaoka tossed in a hat trick with Rhys Taylor-Hawes firing a pair of goals. Kristie Vassberg, Miah Cohen, Jordan Scott and Hillary Quiring turned in great defensive efforts.
