Summerland local Justin Kripps raced to a silver medal alongside teammate Jesse Lumsden at the world cup bobsleigh event in Igls, Austria.

Kripps and Lumsden, who is from Ontario, had the second-fastest runs in both heats, speeding down the 14-corner track in a combined timed of 1:43.98

“We had a great day out there. I got the equipment I needed this year so that, combined with great pushes from my teammates, has been what we needed to get on the podium and be in the hunt every race,” Kripps said.

“Normally, I’m not a big fan of the Igls track. It’s mostly about the push and the equipment here, but now that we have those two pieces working well for us, it paid off here.”

His third Silver medal of the two-man bobsleigh season solidified Kripps’ place as the overall world cup leader in the two-man field. The previous two silvers came in Lake Placid and on Canadian soil in Whistler — both with Alex Kopacz as his partner rather than Lumsden.
