There was a risk assessment done recently by Sean Mercer, Manager of Operations & Community Services, on the Kyle Scow Memorial Skatepark in Port Hardy.
The assessment was put together to produce a quote on how much it would cost to fix the KSM Skateparks out of date facilities, such as the plastic boards on the ramps that are starting to peel due to over ten years of use and abuse, and some other minor issues like bolting down the two hand rails and fixing a hole that was burnt through on top of the large ramp.
“The reason we’re doing a risk assessment, with the new sports-plex that we think we’re going to build for Port Hardy, the skatepark’s come up a number of different time because it’s really in the way in certain areas and it could be put in a number of different places, and there’s nothing really in writing yet. We’re just in the process of figuring out what we want to do with it,” said Port Hardy Mayor Hank Book. “Stephen Ralph, who used to be one of my Councillors, contacted me earlier in the year and he’ll be very much involved in the project. There’s going to be a committee put together to deal with it and he’s going to be on the committee.”
Bood confirmed “there will be a skatepark.”
The risk assessment will be made public at the August 9 Council meeting.
