The popular Kwalikum Secondary School Alumni Basketball Tournament returns for its 2016 installment this weekend with six men’s teams — including the current senior boys squad — and two women’s teams on the schedule.
Six men’s games will be played at the KSS gym Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Four more games are on tap Sunday beginning at 11 a.m., with the women’s contest at 2 p.m. and the men’s championship final at 3:30 p.m.
KSS coach Dave Frampton said he expects between 55 and 65 players, some who date their school playing days to as many as 20 years ago.
This year’s tournament will be played in honour of longtime coach and teacher Bob Bate who recently died following a battle with cancer. His contribution to the school and the program will be reflected in this year’s commemorative T-shirts.
All past graduates and the general public are invited to watch.
