The Kelowna Owls are putting their game to an early season test this weekend against the province’s best senior girls basketball programs.
KSS, ranked fifth in the province in AAA, is one of 16 teams competing in the Tsumura Basketball Invitational at the Langley Events Centre.
The Owls played their opening game Thursday night against the Argyle Pipers.
Heading into the tourney, the Owls—coached this year by Darren Semeniuk and assistant Heather Semeniuk—were 5-2 this season, including a perfect 3-0 in league play.
Courtney Donaldson and Alley Corrado will be among six seniors who will counted on to lead the Owls this season.
Donaldson has committed to the University of Calgary next season, while Corrado and fellow senior Madison Dickie have both signed with Thompson Rivers University.
Kennedy Dickie, who is only in Grade 10, will also be key a player for KSS this season.
The 15-year-old Dickie, who is on Basketball Canada’s radar, is in Edmonton this week for the national program’s high-performance assessment camp.
In addition to having plenty of talent and skill on the roster, Heather Semeniuk said the Owls’ passion for the game is what stands out.
“They just love to play the game, you can see it every time they’re out on the court,” said Semeniuk. “They’re a really nice group of girls to work with.”
