Kyokushin club hosts tourney

More than 50 athletes competed in the third annual Friendship Tournament hosted by Ultimate Truth Kyokushin Karate Vernon and Lumby dojos.

More than 50 athletes competed in the third annual Friendship Tournament hosted by Ultimate Truth Kyokushin Karate Vernon and Lumby at the White Valley Community Centre in Lumby.

In the non-contact bouts, Kohl Mortensen and Zak Zeolkowski won gold in their divisions, while Joshua Roffel and Amerrah Morad (under 60 pounds), Brendan Roffel and Simon Delaroix (61- 70 pounds) earned second and third respectively.

Seiji Botts was second in the 91-100 pound class, and Samantha Shaw placed in her division.

In contact bouts, Morad won gold, Simon Delariox and Botts placed second, and Joshua Roffel, Zeolkowski and Brendan Roffel collected bronze.

In the contact knockdown division, Emily McNutt and Sarah Huitema finished one-two in the 13-14 girls division. In the colour belt senior division, Takoko Azume ranked third in women’s competition, and Jay Shaw was second on the men’s side.
