This is ladies week at the Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club.

Ladies Triples in Qualicum on June 22-23 was won by Pat Cutt, Melie Ursulom and Irene Whitehouse, who won all four of their games in a winner-play-winner format.  Pat Chambers, Pat Norrad and first time tournament player, Bev Hambly also participated and made a good showing.

Our travelling men didn’t have much luck, either in Qualicum or at Provincial Pairs.  However, in the Ladies Provincial Pairs,  Nanaimo’s Mary Mulligan and Lynn Chwartecki of Parksville brought home the bronze.

Frank Lo  notes the club is holding a fundraising event on Canada Day. Bowl Around the Clock is a 24-hour event from June 30 at 4 p.m. until July 1 at 4 p.m. Our members will be going around town to ask for sponsorship; either to bowl a certain amount of games (we call them ends) or a certain amount of hours. (On average we can bowl seven ends in an hour). All the proceeds will be going into our building expansion fund. We will be the first club on the Island to have hosted a 24-hour bowling event, so make sure you sponsor us to be a part of it.

The Friday Night Aggregate has some leaders after the first month: Dean Penny with 18 points,  Melie Ursulom and Michael Lynch have 17 points each; Rosemary Montreuil and Archie Harris in hot pursuit with 16 points each, Linda Harris 15 and Marg Queen 14  are just staying ahead of novice bowlers, Carolyn and Ernest Kassian and George Paish with 13 points.

This is a popular event where one point is awarded for attending and two more if you are on a winning team.  The teams are randomly drawn and attendance is “if you want to play.” Be there by 6 p.m. on Friday evenings.

Mixed Pairs start on July 2. This is a qualifying event for zone championships in September.  Thursday Night Webber is rolling along with some great games happening.
