Three Ladysmith women were part of the VIU Mariners squad that captured PacWest bronze last month.
VIU took the 1-0 victory in penalty kicks over the Langara Falcons on Oct. 28.
The roster includes Ladysmith’s Shea Battie, Karen Battie and Georgia Nicholls.
Both VIU and Langara played excellent defence through the first 90 minutes of the bronze medal match and limited the number of scoring chances.
Mariners’ keeper Zoe Grace made two saves in regulation while the Mariners team had five shots on net.
The game was forced to a penalty kicks where the Mariners scored three times to seal the victory as Battie and two teammates hit the twine.
Grace was named the Player of the Game.
“The ladies thoroughly deserved to win the shootout and take home the bronze. It’s been an exciting journey this season and I’m so happy the players got to end with a win… they really earned it. Next year we look to build on this and the hard work starts immediately” said head coach Kevin Lindo
