Two Williams Lake athletes were recognized for their excellence April 13 during the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack’s Athletes of the Year Awards.
Soccer player Ryan Glanville was presented the Doctor Roger H. Barnsley male student/athlete of the year honour, while cross-country runner Conlan Sprickerhoff took home the Cliff Neufeld Leadership award for combining sporting contributions, community involvement and performance in the classroom.
Glanville, a fifth-year forward with the WolfPack, was a first-team Canada West all-star along with being a U Sport Academic All Canadian. He excelled in the classroom and soccer pitch while holding down a full-time job and helping raise two young children.
Sprickerhoff, meanwhile, captained the cross-country team during the past season and head coach Carmin Mazzotta said he absolutely embraced the role.
“It was a long winter and our athletes were training outside through all of it — minus 20 evenings, ice-covered terrain, wind, snowstorms, you name it,” Mazzotta said. “Conlan sets an example of dedication and commitment that others follow. At every practice, every community event we participated in, and every race, there was Conlan, always positive, always encouraging others, always motivated to do more.”
