Five Williams Lake soccer players will be travelling to Europe next month to play for the Vancouver-based European Football School.
Goalkeeper Jessica Rowley, Morgan Worthington, Jaymie Grove, Amanda Lane and Taylor Wessels — all Grade 10 students at Lake City Secondary School — will join EFS head coach Saibo Talic to play for a team that will compete in the Southeast Europe Tour.
The quintet will be playing in Frankfurt and Saarbrucken Germany, Strasbourg France and Zurich Switzerland from April 14-26.
Talic, who has hosted an annual soccer camp in Williams Lake every summer for the past 13 years, has helped several local players get placement with higher-level soccer teams, as well as college and university scholarships.
Rowley, Worthington, Grove, Lane and Wessels have all been involved with the Williams Lake Youth Soccer Association since the age of four, starting as tykes and have been key members of the Williams Lake Storm rep soccer team for the past four years.
The Storm, coached by Vanessa Hansen, has attended the Junior B Cup provincial championships for the past four seasons, has competed for EFS at Laguna Beach, California in 2014 and represented the North Zone at the 2016 BC Summer Games in Abbotsford.
They will be hosting a dinner and auction fundraiser at the Laughing Loon Restaurant this Saturday, March 11 starting at 6 p.m. for anyone interested in attending.
