Cermaq City FC fell to 1-6 on their inaugural Division 1 season after a 5-0 loss to Lakehill Maple Glass at Robron Field Saturday.

Lakehill whallops Campbell River Cermaq

Campbell River had flashes of brilliance, but could not find the Lakehill goal

In Division One Vancouver Island Soccer League action, Campbell River Cermaq were home against Lakehill Maple Glass at the Robron Turf Field last Saturday.

Lakehill Maple Glass are also a newly promoted team to Division One. Campbell River Cermaq had defeated this club twice last season in Division Two, however that was not the case Saturday.

Lakehill Maple Glass, from the Victoria area, came out swinging. A goal within the first 15 minutes from lanky striker, Kean De Vries put Cermaq on their heels. Moments later, De Vries made it 2-0 Lakehill after chasing down a loose ball and beating Campbell River goalkeeper Beau Belle Oudry.

Ten minutes before halftime, a corner for Lakehill dropped the ball onto the foot of Mike Baines (Lakehill Midfielder) who slotted a nice volley into the back of the Campbell River Cermaq net.

At halftime, the score read 3-0 Lakehill.

Campbell River had flashes of brilliance, but could not find the Lakehill goal. Attempts from Striker Matthew Wooff, Midfielder Rob Shaw and the fleet footed Wyatt Bryce were all saved by the Lakehill keeper.

Lakehill would score two more goals in the second half to put this game on ice. The final score 5-0 Lakehill Maple Glass.

This loss see’s Campbell River in 9th place in the league table.

They will play Division rivals, Comox this upcoming Saturday at the Robron Turf Field for a 4 p.m. kickoff.

Comox are sitting just below Campbell River in the VISL table in 10th.
