DANIEL EVERTON of the Pen High Lakers spiked the ball as a pair of Claremont Spartans reached up to block Wednesday morning at the Langley Events Centre, during the opening day of the Big Kahuna B.C. high school 2A and 3A boys volleyball championships. The Spartans from Victoria defeated the Lakers in two close sets in their 3A match-up.

The Lakers finished fourth in pool play after facing Kilarney, Claremont and Delta. The Lakers opened play today by defeating David Thompson in straight sets 25-21 and 25-22.
The Lakers faced Elgin Park in the match for 17th place, they lost 25-20 and 25-14.
Kelowna and Semiahmoo are playing for the championship at 5 p.m.
