The Thompson-Okanagan Lakers marked the Christmas break by sweeping the last-place Kootenay Wildcats in B.C. Female Midget AAA Hockey League action.
Vernon products Andie Kaneda and Jenna Fletcher each scored once and added an assist, while Christy Blackburne of West Kelowna also converted as the Lakers clipped the Wildcats 3-2 Sunday in Nelson. Emma Gottfriedson of Kamloops was in net.
Ali Roine pulled the hat trick and Kaneda supplied a single as the Lakers shaded the Wildcats 4-3 Saturday. Sydney Carter of Kamloops earned the win.
The Lakers opened the road trip by blanking Kootenay 3-0 Friday night. Roine, with a deuce, and Fletcher handled the offence. Tylee Cooper of Armstrong and Makenna Hoffman of Vernon had one assist apiece in support of Carter.
The fourth-place Lakers improved to 11-11-2, one point back of the Fraser Valley Phantom. The Wildcats dropped to 0-23-1.
Fletcher, with 12-12-24, and Kaneda, with 9-13-22, are among the league’s top-10 pointgetters.
The Vernon-based Lakers entertain the second-place West Coast Avalanche (17-6-1) in a three-game series starting Friday, Jan. 9 (8:30 p.m., Civic Arena).

The Lumby Stars lost a pair of Okanagan Mainline Pee Wee Tier 4 Hockey League games at Pat Duke Memorial Arena.
The Stars, sponsored by Greenvelvet Lawn and Tree Care and Kineshanko Logging, bowed 8-5 to the fourth-place Kamloops Blazers Saturday morning and lost 6-3 to the second-place Clearwater Raiders Sunday.
The Stars hit the scoreboard first against Kamloops midway through the opening period when Conner Seehaver converted on the powerplay, assisted by Tage Kineshanko and Liam Macleod.
The Blazers equalized three minutes later before Kineshanko put the Stars back on top five seconds later on a breakaway goal off the faceoff, unassisted. It was 2-2 when Tye Krause found the back of the net, assisted by Seehaver and Macleod.
Mason Robinson connected on the powerplay, assisted by Seehaver and Noah Clarke, for the Stars’ second-period tally. The Blazers went up 6-4 before Rory Campbell banged in a rebound with assists to Seehaver and Macleod.
The Blazers then potted two powerplay goals.
Parker Stadnyk made several great saves for Lumby, while d-men Matthew Yaremcio and Quin Williamson stymied several offensive attacks.
Clearwater came out strong and went up 1-0 at the 20-second mark. Lumby netminder Eric Foufoulas faced many shots and stood on his head more then a few times in an exciting tilt.
The Stars tied things at 12:04 of the second on a marvellous goal by Robinson, on a beauty pass by Conner Seehaver. Clearwater went ahead just before the ice clean.
Yaremcio stepped into a bold defensive role, along with linemates Williamson, Macleod and Domenik Porteous.
Clearwater started the third period with goals 40 seconds apart in the opening minutes, but Kineshanko replied on a backhand, unassisted, as offensive pressure from Lumby continued from Krause, Campbell, Kaleb Pachal, Clarke, Grayson Bell and Linden Catt.
Kineshanko added another snipe at 1:09 of the third. Lumby is sixth at 3-9-1.
The Sun Valley Source For Sports Vipers grounded the Kelowna Rockets 3-0 in Tier 2 Bantam play Saturday afternoon at Civic.
The game was scoreless until late in the first when captain Dylan Sedlacek took a pass from Damien Coljee-Fehr and snapped in a hard, shot low. With Nick Cherkowski providing a screen, the Rockets’ netminder never saw the puck.
After a scoreless second frame, Coljee-Fehr shoveled the puck home on a scramble less than two minutes into the third with Dawson Chase and Sedlacek picking up the helpers.
Two minutes later, it was Cherkowski redirecting in a point shot from Chase, with Coljee-Fehr picking up his third point of the game. Tyler Sedlacek recorded the shutout.
The Watkin Motors Mustangs closed their 2014 Pee Wee Tier 1 schedule with a 6-5 loss to the host Kamloops Blazers Sunday morning at Memorial Arena.
Kamloops took a 5-2 lead into the ice clean, but the Mustangs fought back and tied the game with 20 seconds to go, only to have the referee disallow the goal and call a questionable penalty against Vernon.
Corbin Hansen provided a deuce for the Mustangs, with singles coming from d-men Connor Elliott and Scott Gilowski, and power forward Nick Teale. Assists went to Steel Quiring and Lucas Zubrod.
Nixon Wenger Vipers lost 7-4 to the West Kelowna Warriors and 7-3 to the Prince George Cougars in their last two games at the West Kelowna Pee Wee Tier 2 Winter Classic.
Viper goalie Aidan Spraggs had a busy first period against the Warriors, stopping everything to hold the game scoreless.
West Kelowna scored on a powerplay early in the second period, but Vernon answered on a 5-on-3 powerplay with Isaac Thomas connecting on a fabulous point shot, assisted by Jacob Jones.
The Warriors then took over with Jones getting the final Viper snipe. Player of Game went to Emma Elders, while Best Defensive Player was Thomas.
Elders, with two goals, Jacob Green and Jacob Wettlaufer handled the Nixon Wenger offence Sunday against Prince George. Maisun Ang-Hamilton pocketed a pair of assists, while Green was chosen Player of the Game and Gage Stoll took the Best Defensive Player award.
The Vernon Home Building Centre Vipers bowed 4-1 to the host Kelowna Fripps Warehouse Rockets in Midget Tier 1 league play Saturday at Memorial Arena.
Kelowna scored once in each period before Brady Marzocco responded for Vernon with assists to Braden Gilowski and Logan Imrich.
The Coca Cola Vipers fell 5-4 to the host Penticton Vees in Midget Tier 2 play Saturday before upending the West Kelowna Tier 3 Warriors 5-1 in Sunday exhibition play at home.
Landon Munk, Jeremy Pogue, Kyle Sherwood and Austin Derkach supplied goals in Penticton, with Conor Webb in net. Harvey Pawsey, Dex Elders, Cordell Oppenheimer, Jarett Campbell, Easton Jones and Julian Darkazanli earned helpers.
Billy Cawthorn took the win Sunday with Jayden Pedersen, Pogue, Elders (shorthanded), Jones and Bryton Stead collecting snipes. Riley Swiscoski, Derkach, Elders, Solomon Ivanoff and Campbell registered assists.
