The city’s murals will be on display this weekend with souped up muscle cars, bikes, and many other specialized vehicles draped in front of them for the 19th Annual Lakers Car Club Show and Shine weekend.
Wayne Potter, president of the Lakers Car Club, said the local car club of car enthusiasts is looking forward to a great weekend filled top to bottom with activities.
“Everything’s getting bigger and better,” Potter said. “We’re expecting a great turnout and this year we’ve changed some things up.”
As part of the Lakers Car Club Poker Run Saturday, participants in the show will be required to take photos of their vehicles in front of the multiple murals around Williams Lake.
The poker run starts with early registration Saturday at 1 p.m. in the A&W parking lot and is open to anyone.
“We’ve got some great ideas there this year,” Potter said. “We’re going to have everyone going around town taking pictures of their cars in front of the murals. It’s one of the ways you get a card in the poker run, so it’s going to sort of promote all the murals around the city.”
The poker run goes until 5 p.m. when participants will gather at the Stampede Grounds for a steak dinner — open to the public — for $15.
Then at 7:30 p.m. Lakers Car Club members and car show participants will hop in their rides and head up to Thunder Mountain Speedway for its opening races of the season to show off their cars during a few intermission laps around the race track.
After that car show participants will head back to town for a late-night cruise of the city.
The action picks right up again Sunday morning with the Lakers Car Club Show and Shine.
Gates open at 8:30 a.m. for registration, with the show starting at 10 a.m. in downtown Williams Lake. Sixty-six trophies will be awarded in 50 classes at the show and shine. There will also be a Sunday Downtown Ladies Only Poker Run taking place through the afternoon.
Potter noted the Lakers Car Club has spiced things up a bit with this year’s show and shine.
“We’ve invited a bunch of vendors down there this year,” he said. “We’ve got some specialized stuff like italian ice cream, specialty donuts, we’ve got the slush thing going on and lots of vendors coming in.”
The car show itself will feature everything from sports cars to muscle cars to big rigs.
“We’ve got everything,” Potter said. “Bikes, big rigs, stationary engines and dragsters, you name it.”
Door prizes, raffles and the coveted Lakers Car Club T-shirts will be available on Sunday.
