The Kalamalka Lakers dispatched the VSS Panthers 2-0 (25-19, 25-17) in the Fulton Senior AA Maroons Girls Volleyball Tournament final Saturday.
Kal was led by tournament MVP Vicki Schley and all-stars Jordan Korol and Megan Squair.
The Lakers defeated Princess Margaret Mustangs of Penticton 2-0 (25-11, 25-14) in the semifinals after sweeping Fulton 25-15, 25-15 in the quarters.
Ashtyn Mackenzie and Stephanie Mintz, both of the Panthers, Leah Wheel of Westsyde Whundas (Kamloops) and Taylor Corrie of the Mustangs rounded out the all-star team.
VSS iced Westsyde 2-0 (26-24, 25-17) in the semis after stopping the Merritt Panthers 2-0 (25-20, 25-19) in the quarters.
The Prince George Polar Bears outlasted Fulton 2-1 (25-14, 18-25, 15- 13) in consolation play. Westsyde toppled Maggie 2-0 (26-24, 25-17) in the consolation final.
“Our tournament displayed a very high calibre of volleyball Teams from AA and AAA Schools from the Okanagan and Northern B.C. Zones,” said Fulton coach Sharon Shaigec.
“Suffering two losses on Saturday was a disappointing finish for us, but there were a lot of positive improvements shown in the games and the Prince George game came down to a two-point difference.”
The AA North Zones go Thursday at Kal with Fulton, Pleasant Valley Saints and Revelstoke Rams competing for berths to the Okanagan Valley Championships Nov. 15-16 in Kamloops.
Kal plays PVSS, while Fulton meets Revelstoke in 4 p.m. games Thursday. Matches follow at 5:10 and 6:20. The top three schools advance to Valleys.
The North Zone junior boys playdowns go Thursday at Fulton with Revelstoke battling the Vernon Christian Royals at 4 p.m. Fulton tangles with the winner at 5:10, while VSS meets the Seaton Sonics at 6:20. The gold-medal match is at 7:30.
