Lakers freeze Fulton 2-0

The host Kalamalka Lakers shut down the Fulton Maroons 2-0 in the North Zone Senior AA Girls Soccer League final Thursday afternoon.

The  host Kalamalka Lakers shut down the Fulton Maroons 2-0 in the North Zone Senior AA Girls Soccer League final Thursday afternoon.

Both teams qualified for the Okanagan Valley Championships starting Tuesday at Beasley Park in Lake Country.

Emily Thorlakson scored both goals for the Lakers, who are coached by Dan McLaughlin.

The Maroons battled hard to the final whistle with Erin Sakamoto, Ashley Eso and Cherish Ayers registering quality shots which were nicely stopped by the Laker keeper Julia Kemper.

Ashley Strageir was solid on the Fulton defence in support of keeper Brittany Skrenek.

“I’m proud of how strong the Lady Maroons have played all their games this season, and I am really looking forward to the Valleys,” said Fulton coach Eric Ladner.

The Lakers have Tuesday games at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday. Fulton’s schedule was not available.

If either team places first or second in their pools, they would get a 2:30 p.m. playoff tilt Wednesday.

The provincials go May 29-30, at Princess Margaret Secondary in Penticton.
