Lakers one win from Cup

Peterborough Lakers ground Langley Thunder 9-5 in Game 5 of Mann Cup final.

The host Peterborough Lakers were one away win from claiming their fifth Mann Cup in nine years after Friday night’s 9-5 decision over the Langley Thunder in Game 5 of the Senior A national lacrosse championships at the Memorial Centre.

The Thunder squandered a 4-0 first-period lead, giving up seven unanswered goals in the second frame.

As per usual, Langley netminder Brodie MacDonald, a Vernon native, faced a barrage of shots. The 6-foot-5 keeper recorded 39 stops, while Mike Thompson had 35 saves for Peterborough.

John Grant and the Evans boys, Shawn and Scott, each supplied a goal and three helpers for the Lakers. Garrett Billings, Athan Ianucci and Shayne Jackson each had 1+2 for Langley.

Game 6 sent Saturday night. If necessary, Game 7 would go tonight.
