Lakers stop Cougars 2-1

The Thompson Okanagan AAA female Lakers brushed back the Northern Cougars of Prince George 2-1 in their home opener Friday.

The Thompson Okanagan AAA female Lakers brushed back the Northern Cougars of Prince George 2-1 in their home opener Friday night at Kal Tire Place.

The Lakers got on the board in the second period with Stephanie Strymecki of Kelowna convertting from  Riley Henderson of West Kelowna.

Jenna Fletcher of Vernon connected from Vernon’s Andie Kaneda for the winner.

Sydney Carter of Kamloops was marvellous in net.

The Fraser Valley Phantom, West Coast Avalanche, Kootenay Wildcats and Vancouver Island Hurricanes are also in the AAA league

The team is coached by Mark Henderson of West Kelowna with assistants Dani Ayearst of Kelowna and Kelsey Halvorson of Vernon.

Meanwhile, the Vernon Bantam Tier 3 Fix It Auto Vipers lost 12-2 to the Salmon Arm Tier 2 Silvertips Friday night.

Dayton Bryan on a great shorthanded breakaway deke, and Nick Mitchell on a low slapper from just inside the blueline, replied for Vernon, coached by Don Brew.
