As hoped at the start of the season, the Pen High Lakers boys rugby team finished second in the Okanagan Valley 3A standings.

The Lakers closed out the season on May 9 in Kelowna, losing to the Owls, 40-33. Lakers coach Ken Sommerfeldt said they were missing six key seniors.
“We had to really throw in the juniors into the game. We still managed to end up with not too bad of a result,” said Sommerfeldt, whose team won four of its six games.
On May 16, the Lakers will host the Salmon Arm Gold 4:30 p.m. at McNicoll Park. The winner will play what is expected to be the Owls for the Okanagan Valley championship on May 18. Having defeated the Gold twice this season, Sommerfeldt is cautiously optimistic.
“I feel we should win that game,” he said.

Should that happen, that will set up a rematch with the Lakers and Owls in Kelowna.
