It took two extra playoff holes, but the Seaton Sonics held off the Kalamalka Lakers at the Okanagan Valley High School Golf Championships Monday at the Vernon Golf and Country Club.
Seaton was led by Matt McEachran-Law’s 2- under 70, matched by Kal’s Austin Bosquet.
Seaton, Kal, George Elliot Coyotes of Lake Country and Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops all advance to provincials, May26-28, at Pheasant Glen in Parksville.
Russell Day, with a 77, Mac Gourdine, at 78, and Parker Wadsworth, with 81, rounded out the Sonics scoring.
Matt Kreutz fired a 75 in support of Kal. McEachran-Law beat Bosquet in the first playoff hole to earn top individual honours.
Vandenbrink cashes in at Harvest
Keith Vandenbrink of Hillview shot a 70 Tuesday to collect $725 for a share of fifth place at the Kelowna Rotary Pro-Am at the Harvest Golf Club.
Vandenbrink was overdue for a payday after shelling out $300 in entry fees and coming up empty at pro events in Penticton, Fairview Mountain in Oliver and Quail in Kelowna.
He started on the eighth hole and birdied three of the five par-5s with just one bogey. His Pro-Am team placed eighth.
Chris Hinton of The Harvest won a three-man playoff and pocketed $2,500. Hinton, Rob Anderson of Kelowna Golf &CC and Ethan Danish of Two Eagles (West Kelowna) all carded 68s.
Assistant Harvest pro Greg Giblin claimed $10,000 for a hole-in-one.
Ortiz sweeps Junior stops
Brandon Ortiz of West Kelowna won a pair of Okanagan Zone 2 Junior Tour events last weekend.
His 75 won in a playoff with Casey Sullivan at the Kelowna Golf and Country club Saturday. He followed that with a 71 to win at Kelowna Springs Sunday.
Vernon’s Matt McEachran-Law missed Saturday’s playoff by one stroke. He finished fifth Sunday with a 75.
Mac Gourdine and Matthew Kreutz carded 77s Saturday to share fifth.
Gourdine placed fourth with a 74 Sunday, while Kreutz of Vernon shot 77 tied for 10th.
Austin Bosquet finished six shots back Saturday in 15th. He bounced back at Kelowna Springs, producing a 73, two shots Ortiz.
Russell Day of Vernon fired a 82 Saturday and a 83 Sunday.
Phillip Kaiser’s 80 topped the bantam category Saturday. His 83 was good enough for eighth place Sunday.
Declan Riddle was two shots back Saturday, while Vernon’s Braeden Cooper and Ethan Hunt of Kelowna tied for third with 83.
Brandon Chai, a Vernon product, won the bantam title at Kelowna Springs with a 72.
Ryan Brown placed eighth with 83 and Cooper shot 86 for 10th.
The Zone Tour stops at the Dunes Golf Course and Eagle Point Golf course in Kamloops this weekend.
