Emmy Lan won a pair of silver medals at the Canadian Downhill Mountain Bike Championships July 27/28 at Panorama Resort in the Kootenays.
The 15-year-old member of the Comox Valley-based Gravity MTB Youth Development Race Team followed a second-place finish in the U21 women’s division in enduro with another second-place result among U17 women in downhill.
Enduro is a multi-stage race while downhill is one timed run.
Lan’s teammate, Ian Lehton, also raced the two disciplines. He finished 10th among U21 men in enduro, and ninth in U17 expert in downhill.
Other downhill results from Gravity members:
Maddox Wyker, sixth U15 men
Carson Damery, third U17 men
Calum Barr, fourth U17 men
Kyle Mitchell, 21st U17 men (huge crash but uninjured)
Cole Stinson, fourth U17 expert
Connor Nettleton, eighth U17 expert
“All in all it was an amazing weekend for the team,” coach Chad Hendren said.
Patrick Laffey, who has been competing on the World Cup downhill circuit in Europe, did not race due to a crash in practice. His next event is the world championships.
Last weekend at the Island Cup Enduro at Mount Washington, Stinson was the overall winner in the expert men’s division.
The Gravity team will be racing at Crankworx this month in Whistler, followed by the Stevie Smith Memorial BC Cup Downhill at Mount Washington mid-September.
