Langley-based Giants fall in both weekend game in the Interior

The Rockets beat the G-Men in Kelowna Friday, 8-1, then a closer loss in Kamloops tonight, 4-3.

Vancouver Giants concluded a five-game road swing tonight with another loss.

The G-Men lost 8-1 to the Kelowna Rockets on Friday night at Prospera Place, then just fell to the Blazers at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops tonight.

In tonight’s game, they lost a heart breaker on Saturday night, falling 4-3 to the Kamloops after having led 3-0 in the second period.

Calvin Spencer, Jack Flaman, and Bartek Bison scored Vancouver’s goals.

Spencer put the Giants ahead when he scored with three seconds left in the first period on a rebound from the slot.

Flaman made it 2-0 at 1:17 of the second stanza, batting a rebound past Kamloops goaltender Dylan Ferguson from the top of the crease.

Bison scored a couple of minutes later when he knocked a Jordan Borstmayer centring feed into the back of the net.

Deven Sideroff put Kamloops on the board before the end of the middle frame, beating Vancouver goaltender Ryan Kubic with a hard shot from the right circle

The Blazers struck twice in a 27 second span to tie the game early in the third period, getting goals from Quinn Benjafield and Rudolfs Balcers.

Balcers bagged his second of the night, and the game winner, with 5.1 seconds left in the final frame on a tap-in at the side of the net.

The G-Men out shot the Blazers 45-33 in the loss.

Friday’s loss

In Friday’s game against Kelowna, Giants’ James Malm scored Vancouver’s lone goal on a third period power play, while David Tendeck made 39 saves in the Giants’ crease.

Carsen Twarynski opened the scoring for the home team, beating Tendeck with a point shot on a power play at 9:55 of the first period.

Dillon Dube added an even strength marker later in the opening frame.

The Rockets exploded for four goals in a span of 3:52 in the second period to blow the game open.

Dube tallied his second of the evening on a power play before James Hilsendager, Cal Foote, and Leif Mattson scored to extend the Kelowna lead.

Reid Gardiner extended his point streak to 14 games when he scored his 15th goal of the season in the first minute of the third period.

Devante Stephens added a goal too.

Malm spoiled Brodan Salmond’s shutout bid when he fired a puck into the back of the net from the bottom of the right circle at 9:06.

Kelowna out shot Vancouver 47-21. The G-Men were 1-for-4 on the power play while the Rockets went 2-for-4.

Vancouver will return to action on Tuesday, back home, at the Langley Events Centre against the Victoria Royals for Don Cherry Night.
