Two Langley district high school girls’ soccer teams travelled to Nelson for a three-day AA provincial tournament this past weekend.
Langley Fundamental struggled early on with two losses and a tie before winning their fourth game. Their final game demonstrated their determination as they fought to a draw, only to lose in penalty kicks. They finished 14th.
DW Poppy’s Red Hawks came out strong with a win and a tie but their undoing was a must-win loss to last year’s provincial champions, the host LV Rogers of Nelson. They won their last game to finish 11th.
Sixteen teams from across B.C. participated in these championships played in Nelson’s Lakeside Park with the West Arm of Kootney Lake just beyond the sports fields providing a beautiful background. Other games were played in Castlegar on the Selkirk College campus situated above the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers.
