Goalie Tye Belanger likes the direction the Langley-based Vancouver Stealth lacrosse team is going, and he’s glad to remain with the team.
The Vancouver Stealth announced today that they have signed the goaltender to a two-year contract, along with transition player Thomas Hoggarth penning a one-year contract.
Belanger played in 16 games in the 2017 National Lacrosse League (NLL) regular season for the Stealth.
He led the league with a .796 save percentage and was fourth on the list with an 11.28 goals against average.
Belanger was originally drafted 16th overall by the Colorado Mammoth in the 2011 NLL entry draft, but was acquired by the Stealth in October 2016.
“With the success we had last season, I am excited for the future,” Belanger said. “I think we took a big step forward as a team and I like the direction we are headed.”
In the meantime, Hoggarth has spent his two-year career with the Stealt, appearing 20 games, scoring eight goals, three assists, and 11 points.
He was originally drafted 20th overall by Georgia in the 2015 NLL entry draft, but signed in February 2016 as a free agent with the Stealth.
He helped lead the Orangeville Northmen to a Minto Cup Finals appearance in 2016.
“I am very excited to return to the Stealth for the 2018 season,” said Hoggarth. “I think I speak on behalf of all of the guys, when I say we are going to make a big push this year and we all have our sights set on the Champion’s Cup.”
