Three members of the Langley Olympians swim team were golden at the Hyack Festival Youth Cup, held recently in New Westminster.
Fifteen-year-old Renae Ledoux in the 12- to- 15-year-old girls 200m breaststroke, 11-year-old Hugh McNeill in the 11 & under boys 400m freestyle and 200m backstroke, and 17-year-old Justin Schramm in the 16- to- 18-year-old boys 200m fly all won their respective races.
In total, LOSC sent 21 competitors to the meet, hosted by Hyack swim club and held at the Canada Games Pool in New Westminster.
The meet included heats and finals in a long course (50m metre) pool and was attended by teams from all over the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, Alberta, and Washington State.
All swimmers needed a qualifying time to attend, so the competition was very fierce.
The Langley swimmers raced well and many of them made it into finals and placed in the top three.
On top of the first place winners, Olympians who also placed in the top three included:

Danielle de la Gorgendiere, 15, in the 14-15 girls 800m freestyle;
Bailey Herbert, 12, in the 12-13 girls 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke;
Joshua Kim, 13, in the 12-13 boys 100m freestyle, 400mIM and 50m freestyle;
Renae Ledoux in the 400m IM;
Hugh McNeill in the 200m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 400m IM;
Sevi Parr, 11, in the 11 & under girls 200m freestyle; and
Justin Schramm in the 1500m freestyle.
3rd Place
Danielle de la Gorgendiere in the 200m backstroke;
Mia Goretic, 11, in the 11 & under girls 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 200m IM;
Bailey Herbert in the 400m IM;
Ryan Hunter, 11, in the 11 & under boys 100m freestyle;
Brayden Kells, 13, in the 13-14 boys 200m breaststroke;
Joshua Kim in the 100m breaststroke, 200m freestyle and 200m IM;
Renae Ledoux in the 200m IM;
Hugh McNeill in the 200m IM;
Sevi Parr in the 50m freestyle;
Justin Schramm in the 400m freestyle; and
Gabriella Szalkai, 16, in the 16-18 girls 400mIM.
A number of LOSC club records were broken at the meet Bailey Herbert in the 11-12 girls 400m IM (5:21.69) and 400m freestyle (4:49.09); Brayden Kells in the 13-14 boys 200m breaststroke 2:37.07; and Joshua Kim in the 13-14 boys 100m breaststroke 1:12.98.
Sarah Buckingham, 13, achieved her second B.C. AAA time at the meet and can now attend the BC AAA Championships in July.
Fellow 11-year-olds Brooklyn Gerber and Mia Goretic both achieved 100 per cent best times.
“The swimmers all raced well with many of them making finals and placing in the top three,†Olympians head coach Brian Metcalfe said. “I am always happy to see the younger swimmers break club records that have been held for many years. It shows the level of talent that we have coming up through the club.â€
Olympians’ registration is ongoing and the club is offering a freestyle month of swimming to new members.
